How to get your motorcycle brakes ready for the season

    We are on the break of Easter, which for many is equal to the beginning of the motorcycle season - YAY! It is very likely that you have not had your motorcycle out of the garage yet after you have stored it before the cruel winter months. So to make sure it becomes ready for the road, follow these practical tips on how to get your brake system ready for the new season:

    Check your riding environment

    Regardless of your plans, we recommend that you start by checking what environment you intend to be riding your bike in. Will you be commuting to and from work, indulge yourself on a road trip or set off on an off-road adventure - SBS has a brake compound to match each environment and need you may have.     Inspect your brake pads

    Inspect your brake pads. Make sure they are not too worn down. We recommend that you at least 2-3mm compound material left (1,5mm as an absolute minimum). If you do not have this much, we recommend that you replace them. Follow the assembly instructions when if you mount and install new brake pads yourself >

    Inspect your brake discs

    Inspect your brake discs for cracks and bends. Wipe you disc clean of dirt with a piece of cloth. Use your fingers and eyes to inspect the shape. If you see or feel any irregularities in the surface or in the shape, we recommend that you replace your disc immediately. Use the SBS Lookup Feature to find a matching disc from SBS >

    Check your brake fluid

    We recommend that your brake fluid at least every second (2) year. If your brake lever is limp, it usually is a good indicator that you need to change your brake fluid or that have air bubbles in our brake system. Check what brake fluid is recommended for you bike by identifying the DOT type on your master cylinder. It is recommended that you use same brand or empty the system before adding new brake fluid.     With these steps, your brake system is ready for the new season. We recommend that you also check the following before hitting the road:

    1. Chain
    2. Tires
    3. Oil
    4. Parts, such as spark plugs, cables and air filters
    5. Lights
    6. Battery
    7. Your rider gear
